Dennis Lin is a Taiwanese-Canadian artist and a graduate of the Ontario Collage of Art (OCAD). Lin is concerned with patterns of consumption, the sustainability of the human population given these patterns, and the earth’s threshold to maintain them. These concerns are reflected in the way Lin pushes the physical thresholds of the woods and metals that compose his sculptures. At times this results in a single, momentous impact. At others, highly refined materials are forced, bent and formed to recall the natural landscape from which their elemental combinations were first felled or mined.

Lin’s preoccupation with sustainability is reflected in his process. His studio is powered by solar energy, and as a result his artwork is controlled by seasonal rhythms. Each kilowatt hour, cut, form and addition to a sculpture is accounted for. When there is waste from the larger works it is kept, used, and reused to create or power new pieces and projects. His sculptures range in size from the monumental to the handheld.

His work can be found in public and private collections internationally.

Lin currently lives rurally in what is now known as Kimberley, Ontario in the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation as well as the Métis Nation of Ontario.
